Physical Accessibility
At ONEONESIX, we want everyone to feel comfortable and welcome. Whatever your access needs, we’re here to help. Below is some information about the space that might help you plan your trip.
About the space
116a Bank Street has been a community hub for over 100 years. It is now home to ONEONESIX Trust, Company of Giants, Whangārei Fringe Festival and Beagle Radio. Every week the space is filled with community activity. We host theatre, music gigs, public talks, comedy, workshops, markets, choirs, hui, the odd banquet and more. The hall is the main performance and event area. It is a multipurpose space with a beautiful old wooden floor, tall windows, lighting rig, and floor-to-ceiling blackout theatre curtains that turn the place into a canvas for events, hui and workshops.
The foyer is comfy & eclectic with lots of casual seating. It’s a great space to host guests before an event. The foyer is adjacent to the kitchen with a serving hatch. The mezzanine is an extra nook above our foyer. The backroom is a private space that joins into the foyer area. It’s light and flexible with white walls and a carpeted floor. It can be a green room, rehearsal space or breakout area for your event.
Please note: We have a community radio station based at ONEONESIX. DJs may arrive to broadcast their show during your booking. All members understand the kaupapa of the space as an event and performance venue. The radio room is soundproofed and located adjacent to the foyer.
Parking
We’ve got an unofficial accessible park right out front by the roadside entrance. There’s also a gravel carpark next door with three spaces for our users. If those are full, it works well as a drop-off spot, and there’s street parking along Bank Street, Norfolk Street, plus a public carpark on Vinery Lane (150m). Parking can be a bit tricky between 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday. If your show falls in that window, give us a heads up and we’ll do our best to sort something for you.
Access
The front entrance has a ramp up to double doors, which can be opened wide for wheelchair access. You might come across a couple of small bumps (like cable ramps), but the venue is mostly single-level. The only exception is the mezzanine in the foyer. The bar counter is on the high side, so feel free to pop around the side if that makes ordering easier.
We have an accessible bathroom and all of our doorways are wide enough for wheelchairs.
Seating
If you need anything specific, like a wheelchair-friendly space or seats together for companions, just let us know ahead of time and we’ll set it up.
ONEONESIX is modular, so seating layouts change from show to show. If you’re unsure what it’ll look like, get in touch and we can figure out what works best for you.
NZSL Interpreters
We work with NZSL interpreters for a range of shows. When a show is interpreted, it’ll be clearly noted on the ticketing page or our website.
If you’d like to check anything before your visit, please give us a call or send us an email and we can organise a time to meet and show you around the venue. For any questions or requests, please contact us at or call 027 313 9704
